Originally created for Ms. Ida Schmertz, this incredible dining set by Michael Elkan is a masterpiece of modern American design. Built over the course of 2 years the entire set is comprised of a single Bird's-eye Maple tree that was 6 feet in diameter when living. In very good vintage condition there is little wear to this beautiful and stunning set. Mr. Elkan hired CA sculptor David Cotter to create the one-of-a-kind "floating" steel bench frames for the backs of these amazing seats. Incredibly dramatic presence, balance, and design by an accomplished and acclaimed American woodworker.
